In 2022 we started working with sailors Igor Shkvorets and Iryna Troshyna on their Sail For Science project.
They bought a 40 foot Gulf 40, built in 1964. It’s a long-keeled Bermuda sloop that needed a bit of overhauling before putting back in the water. You can read about our summer adventures in their blog. This year Igor and Iryna are hoping to sail away to the Atlantic, and then off for as long as they can keep going.
Meanwhile we rewired almost everything, installed new radios, AIS, depth and wind sensors, satnav and radar. We have also added solar charging for the batteries to supplement the Perkins diesel.
When they leave they hope to have a selection of RBR CTD to carry out salinometery under sails, and the rear cabin has been kitted out as a laboratory for assays of chemistry and fauna en route.
For more information put a message in a bottle for Igor and Iryna.
